The Yorkshire barn

I’ve just finished a complex linocut for a friend showing his barn in Yorkshire. I say complex because there are fifteen colours in the print as well as watercolour printing, stencils and paper-cuts and with drying time it’s taken around six weeks to produce. For me it was a chance to experiment and use some production and printing methods that I’ve used before and some new ones as well. Only one block was used but with many cutting stages that have considerably reduced the original block and the use of a lot of transparent colour to slowly build the print. As a learning process it has been brilliant and the experiments have added to the personal knowledge bank. Let’s hope he likes it too. Here’s a page from my work book too, a bit of analogue filing if you like or perhaps more accurately the ramblings of a deranged mind.

  1. I can absolutely confirm that he more than likes it – he loves it.
Thanks so much for your hard and expert work on this John, it’s so appreciated. It’s so much more than I anticipated.
