I’ve been working on a woodcut to get my hand back into cutting them although I don’t have anymore suitable wood left when then this print is finished so that’s another project, finding more suitable wood! never mind it keeps you busy. Anyway this print will be in two colours when it’s finished and this is the first proof then when I’m happy with the block I’ll produce a run of five on this Japanese paper which is very lightweight, almost like tissue, and difficult to handle in large sheets. The block is too big for my press so it’s a table top burnishing exercise; the first image is the paper laid on the inked block, the second is the paper still in place but now burnished with a spoon and the third is the proof peeled off. I had a Japanese Baren to burnish the print with but I can’t find it. I suspect that a certain Jack Russell Terrier found it interesting and tested it’s teeth and jaws on it somewhere in the back garden so I used the old standby, a desert spoon. The finished print will be revealed next week.
