In the winter in the Norfolk Fenland there are vast areas that are intentionally flooded to assist in the management of water, basically floodwater, the excess water that has gathered, and that which has flowed down into the flatlands from Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and other counties. Obviously it’s a little more complicated than that summary but that, in very simple terms, is the principle of the managed flooding. Poles, gates, buildings and other structures are marooned in the middle of what appears to be a giant lake but will be lush pasture when summer comes. From that landscape comes the print shown above, there are two more to cut in this series so as always there’s more to follow.
