Fenland prints

Two linocuts very much inspired by a very particular seasonal Fenland colour, the brilliant yellow of the oilseed rape flower. The first is really a study for the second but I think that it stands up on its own; a Nissen hut that the terriers and I walk past was surrounded by a sea of intense yellow and simply looked incongruous standing in all that colour. The finished print was called ‘Oilfields’ and it really speaks for itself. When the skies take on that leaden look but but another part of the sky still has sunshine the effect can be quite startling. I’ll have another try this year.
