Another print using old art school sketchbooks as the reference source and this time up in the Northumbrian coalfield. All the pit heads and winding mechanisms have now gone just as they have all over England, Wales and Scotland with just the odd one remaining with a new lease of life as a heritage centre that shows the younger people and visitors what ‘King Coal’ really meant to the area. The colours used in the print are vivid but I remember these pit villages, the spoil heaps and the surrounding railway yards and sidings as being unremittingly grey
